What is Plastic Surgery

plastic surgery

plastic surgery

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body.

Plastic surgery can be divided into 2 categories. One is reconstructive surgery which aims to reconstruct a part of the body to improve its functioning. It includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and treatment of the burns. The other is cosmetic or aesthetic surgery which aims at improving the appearance of the body. Both of these techniques are commonly used throughout the world, especially South Korea.

Plastic surgery sub-specialties

Plastic surgery is a broad field, and may be subdivided further:

  • Aesthetic surgery

aesthetic surgery includes facial and body surgery for aesthetic purposes. Plastic surgeons use cosmetic surgical principles in all reconstructive surgical problems as well as isolated operations to improve overall appearance.

  • Burn surgery

Burn surgery generally takes  place in tho phases: acute burn surgery is the treatment immediately after a burn, reconstructive burn surgery takes place after the burn wounds have healed.

  • Craniofacial surgery

Craniofacial surgery is a surgical subspecialty that deals with congenital and acquired deformities of the head, skull, face, neck, jaws and associated structures.

Crainofacial surgery is divided into pediatric and adult craniofacial surgery. Pediatric surgery mostly revolves around the treatment of congenital anomalies of the crainofacial skeleton and soft tissues such as cleft lip and palate, crainosynostosis, and pediatric fractures.

Adult craniofacial surgery deals mostly with fractures and secondary surgeries (such as orbital reconstruction) along with orthognathic surgery. Craniofacial surgery is an important part of all plastic surgery training programs, further training and subspecialisation is obtained via a craniofacial fellowship.

  • Hand surgery

Hand surgery deals with both surgical and non-surgical treatment of conditions and problems that may take place in the hand or upper extremity (commonly from the tip of the hand to the shoulder) including injury and infection. Hand surgery may be practiced by graduates of general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery.

  • Microsurgery

Microsurgery is generally concered with the reconsturction of missing tissues by transferring a piece of tissue to the reconstuction site and reconnecting blood vessels.

  • Pediatric plastic surgery

Children often face medical issues very different from the experiences of an adult patient. Many birth defects or syndromes present at birth are best treated in childhood, and pediatric plastic surgeons specialize in treating these conditions in children. Conditions commonly treated by pediatric plastic surgeons include craniofacial anomalies, Syndactyly (webbing of the fingers and toes), Polydactyly (excess fingers and toes at birth), cleft lip and palate, and congenital hand deform

plastic surgery

Who might benefit off of plastic surgery

  • Those with congenital abnormalities
  • Those with burns or other serious injuries
  • Those who want to have confidence boost by improving their appearance

How plastic surgery is done

In plastic surgery, the transfer of skin tissue (skin grafting) is a very common procedure. Skin grafts can be derived from the recipient or donors:

  • Autografts are taken from the recipient. If absent or deficient of natural tissue, alternatives can be cultured sheets of epithelial cells in vitro or synthetic compounds, such as integra, which consists of silicone and bovine tendon collagen with glycosaminoglycans.
  • Allografts are taken from a donor of the same species.
  • Xenografts are taken from a donor of a different species.

When should you consider plastic surgery?

You should consider plastic surgery when you feel serious unhappiness or unsatisfaction because of your looks or part of your body, or when you find it difficutl to do certain task because of non-functioning body part.

Reconstructive surgery vs Aesthetic surgery

Reconstuctive surgery is done in order to fix non-functioning body that has caused an abnormal change in body shape or appearance. This is done in general hospital.

Aesthetic surgery or plastic surgery is performed to change body shape or appearance, usually when no medical condition is present. However, sometimes, the surgery treats conditions that have resulted from another medical condition that is no longer an issue. You can have plastic surgery at plastic surgery clinics or hospitals.

Plastic surgery risks and side effects

Plastic surgery, like every other surgery procedures, don’t come without risks, such as:

  • Bleeding
  • Pain and discomfort
  • Infection
  • Scarring
  • Nerve damage or numbness
  • Necrosis
  • Seroma
  • Anesthesia issues
  • Poor cosmetic outcome
  • Death

Reducing the risk

Like any surgery, the patient has the ability to reduce the risk of complications. Lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking, are extremely important before surgery, as non-smokers heal faster and have less scarring. Some plastic surgeons will not perform surgery on current smokers because the final outcome may not be as good. In addition, eating a healthy diet before and after the procedure can speed healing and improve wound closure, which also minimizes scarring.

The best way to reduce the risk of a bad outcome is to choose the surgeon who performs the procedure wisely. Your safest bet is to utilize the help of medical tourism agents as they have reliable and up-to-date data of anything regarding plastic surgery, as well as the best current doctors for any specific surgery.

What is Tummy Tuck and What is it for?

Tummy Tuck

What is tummy tuck?

Looking overweight is claimed to be a big reason why people feel less confident. This is why most people would go on a length to have their stomach appear flat.

The most common practice people try is by consuming weight loss drugs, fitness routines, and changing their eating habbits. These are great ways to maintain your shape, however they don’t give you instant result and they require high dedication and a lot of time which a lot of people don’t have.

The easier way to do this is through tummy tuck, which will make you slimmer by removing excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.

This procedure is done mostly by women, but it’s not rare to see men doing this either.

Tummy tuck, however, isn’t an alternative to healthy diet and lifestyle. Although the results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, the positive outcome can be greatly diminished by significant fluctuations in your weight.

Who is NOT a good candidate for tummy tuck?

  • People who have not tried other means for losing their excess fat.

If you have tried various other methods including fitness, weight loss programs, healthy diet and still can’t seem to lose weight, you can have tummy tuck surgery as last resort.

  • People who are suffering from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other types of severe illness.

You need to perform health checkup before your doctor would agree with performing tummy tuck. If you have a history of stroke, heart disease, and diabetes, tummy tuck will be risky for you.

  • People who are pregnant.

Tummy tuck is not recommended for women who are still planning on having children nor for women who are pregnant.

Types of Tummy Tuck Surgery

  1. Mini tummy tuck – reduce fat and excess skin around waistline with no scar around the belly button and a shorter low, horizontal incision. Recommended for patients that are within 10% of their ideal body weight. Duration : 2-3 hours.
  2. Full Tummy tuck – reduce fat and excess skin around wasitline by removing excess skin and fat and tightening the abdominal muscles. Recommended for patients that are within more than 20% of their ideal body weight. Duration: 4 hours.

Type of anesthesia: general anesthesia.

Preparing for Tummy tuck

  • Get lab testing or a medical evaluation.
  • Pemeriksaan kondisi fisik secara umum dari hasil lab.
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
  • Stop smoking
  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding
  • Those who are overweight are adviced to some weight prior.

Tummy tuck process

Step 1 – Anesthesia

Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedures. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.

Step 2 – The incision

Doctor will design and make the incision  around waistline.

Step 3 – Closing the incisions

Sutures, skin adhesives, tapes or clips close the skin incisions.

Risks post-surgery

  • Anesthesia risks
  • Temporal pain
  • Numbness or other changes in skin sensation
  • Skin discoloration and/or prolonged swelling
  • Feeling of tiredness and breathing difficulties
  • Fatty tissue found deep in the skin might die (fat necrosis)
  • Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications
  • Bleeding
  • Skin loss
  • Poor wound healing
  • Infection
  • Unfavorable scaring
  • Possibility of revisional surgery

Post-surgery care

  • Use compression garment for 4 to 6 weeks to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Patient can get back to work after 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Avoid heavy activities for 4 to 6 or more weeks
  • Scar will dissappear completely after 3 weeks to a year.

Charm Your Way with Korean Dimple Surgery

korea medical tourism

Dimples are undoubtedly the cutest deformity ever. These little holes on your cheeks just make you look super cute for no reason. It doesn’t matter how ugly you look in a photo, your dimples will always somehow make your face look a little less of a mess.

korea medical tourism

Why do some people have dimples and others don’t? It’s generally agreed that dimples are genetic – but there’s an argument about the details. For a long time, dimples were considered “dominant” genetic trait: if both your parents had them, you’d always develop some cuteness of your own.

Now, however, some scientists are arguing that they’re actually irregular dominant traits – so having two parents with dimples doesn’t guarantee you with such blessing 100 percent of the time. One specialist, Professor John McDonald, thinks there isn’t enough research to classify dimples as a dominant trait at all. What’s agreed upon, though is that dimples are actually a defect on your face.

korea medical tourism

As mentioned though, not everyone is blessed with this kind of cuteness on their faces. If you’re one of such people, do not fret as Korean plastic surgery offers a nice solution for that problem within 15 minutes. So, no hospital stays required. The result is so natural that nobody would be able to tell the difference!

The surgery in question is called dimple creation surgery. Dimples will be created from inner side of your mouth so it won’t leave visible scars, and furthermore the shape and size of the dimples will be designed based on your face’s overall look, so there’s zero reason to worry about them not fitting or ending up looking weird.

There are several kinds of dimple surgeries. In Grand Plastic Surgery for instance, the option consists of:

  1. Long dimples give off cute, soft, and also mature and sexy image.
  2. Indian dimples give off an innocent and naughty image.
  3. Mouth corner dimples give off cute, prim, and precocious image.
  4. Central cheek dimples give off young, cute, and also soft impression.

korea medical tourism

You are the right candidate for dimple creation surgery if the following applies to you:

  1. You wish to change the impression you give.
  2. You have desires to have an attractive point for the dull smiling face.
  3. You have desire to have clearer and deeper dimples.
  4. You wish to have a revision surgery because of unsatisfactory previous result.

What to do Before Getting Your Face Surgery in South Korea

korea medical tourism

There are a few procedures patients in South Korea need to follow before undergoing plastic surgery, specifically for face remodeling surgeries.

First, they need to fill in a form with brief information about the patient’s disease history such as heart disease or high blood pressure. They will also be asked if they were currently taking drugs and whether or not the patient has had plastic surgery before. It is important to fill this form honestly as failing to do so can be detrimental to your safety.

Patients must stop aspirin or omega-3 drug intake because it can thin the blood which can be dangerous in case of excessive bleeding during operation.

After consulting with beauty consultant, patient will then proceed to consult with the surgeon to express their wishes while the doctor recommends which surgery to do after inspecting the patient’s face condition.

After which, patient will negotiate on surgery cost before finally the plastic surgery procedure is finally scheduled. For Koreans, the plastic surgery will be scheduled minimum 1-2 weeks, but international patients will have it scheduled as fast as a day or two after consultation as they have limited time in Korea.

Lastly, patients are required to fast for at least 6 hours before they finally have their plastic surgery to get the face they have been longing for.

Korean Plastic Surgery for Small Chin and Short Face

korea medical tourism

There are ways to achieve beauty. One way is through beauty treatments. Beauty care in clinics can smoothen your skin and make your skin lighter, however it can’t accomplish too much drastic change. It also needs to be carried out regularly, lest their results diminish overtime. This means it requires a lot of time and money.

Another way to achieve beauty is through plastic surgery. This gives a more permanent result and thus ultimately requires less time and money. Furthermore it can give you more noticeable results change than beauty treatments do.

korea medical tourism
Changing your chin size for example, is difficult to achieve through beauty treatment, but can easily be done through plastic surgery procedure.

Generally, there is an ideal ratio for the size of your chin in accordance to your face. If your chin is too long, your face will look old, and if it’s too short then it will produce a less pronounced face. Tilted or wide chin is also considered aesthetically unsatisfactory.

korea medical tourism
If you are one of those who are not satisfied with your chin, you can have a genioplasty, which is a plastic surgery focused on the shape and size of the chin.

Short chin can also be made longer by the use of implants such as silicone or gore-tex.

korea medical tourism

Implant installation will be done through one or two 1 cm incision made inside the lower lip. Said implant will then be installed in accordance of your bone. This results in a more beautiful chin and clearer contour lines.

The surgery needs about 30 minutes and does not require a stay in, and doesn’t leave visible scar because the incision is done inside the mouth. Suture removal is done 14 days after surgery.

korea medical tourism

There are a number of plastic surgeries men can do, one of which is eye surgery. Having sharp eyes can make you look masculine, although many can’t have this look naturally.

korea medical tourism

The eye is the window to the soul, they say. Your eyes are the main thing people look at when they see your face. Most of your expressions are shown through your eyes, whether you fake a laugh, are happy, sad, excited, curious.

A lot of guys have a somewhat gloomy expression and make them look unattractive. This is most likely because they don’t have double eyelids.

If you’re one of such people, Korean plastic surgery clinics like Grand Plastic Surgery can help you get better looks in no time at all.

Grand Plastic Surgery can make thin folds in your eyelids that will help a great deal in improving your looks. This process only takes 1 to 1,5 hours to finish, so you can go out and do activities right after surgery. No stay in is necessary.

However, suture removal is done 3 to 7 days after surgery so you are not advised to do a lot of activities during this time period.

Also, because male eyelids are usually thicker than female’s, Grand Plastic Surgery will do an excessive fat removal along with your surgery to not leave a surgery trace. Grand Plastic Surgery strives to provide a “non-excess” eye surgery results by putting each individual’s character in consideration.

korea medical tourism

Grand Plastic Surgery can provide results as desired by the patient. They can form your eyes according to what you want. Do you prefer a soft impression? Manly look? A “fresh” looking face? Grand can them to you.

Plastic Surgery Procedures That Will Be Popular in 2019

korea medical tourism
Step up your game and be don’t miss your chance to be a trend setter this year!
Get your plastic surgery before your peers notice how trendy it is by predicting what the wave is gonna look like!

What will be the most popular plastic surgery trends in 2019?

1. Ultrasonic Nose Job

korea medical tourism
One of the worst things about rhinoplasty is the uncomfortable recovery, but Rhino-sculpture Ultrasonic Nose Surgery is going to change that in 2019.
This surgery is reportedly gaining popularity because it promises shorter healing time and with the added bonus of having even better results than regular rhinoplasty.
This surgery utilizes a probe device that emits ultrasonic energy which will allow the surgeon to accurately form your nose to minimalize damage to the cartilage or soft tissue.
2. 4K Resolution
korea medical tourism
Last year there have been an increase in 3D virtual reality imaging to improve the decision making surrounding your cosmetic procedures. This year, beauty clinics introduce the use of 4D technology with the use of augmented reality.
This technology can perform a full body scan of your body and project it to a mirror screen, showing your reflection post-procedure.
This 4D technology is a major advantage for several surgery procedures like breast enlargement and reconstruction because it allows you to choose implants to fit your anatomy, and it also helps you see how your body is going to end up looking after the procedure.
3. Lip Lifts
korea medical tourism
Being that sensual and full lips are so desirable, it’s no wonder lip enhancement procedures are so popular.
In 2019, it will be even more popular with a method offering a more nuanced effect and more natural looking features.
enter the lip lift -a permanent procedure- typically done under local anaesthesia in less than an hour. This operation shortens the space between the bottom of the nose and the top of the lips (aka the philtrum) by carving out a bullhorn-shaped strip of skin just below the nostrils.
It helps to raise the lips edges and creates a more natural, plumper appearance (as well as adding definition to the Cupid’s bow).
4. Face-lift 3D
korea medical tourism
Micro surgeries are becoming popular, as more individuals seek minimally invasive procedures with minimal scarring.

‘A growing trend in 2019 will be the volumetric or ‘3D face-lift’. This new surgery plumps the face by pulling tissue inside the face back onto the cheek bones.

‘The surgeon makes incisions by each ear to reach the inner facial tissue, which usually slips down the face due to ageing. It is pulled back upwards and suspended on the cheek bones.

‘It causes less scarring because the process does not involve cutting away as much skin. The technique creates a more attractive look – a fuller, youthful appearance rather than a tight – and possible wind tunnel – effect.’

5. Hybrid boob
korea medical tourism

Another plastic surgery that will be popular in 2019 is hybrid breast surgery, a type of surgery that combines implants with the reshaping possibilities offered by fat transfer. This technique will create more natural looking breasts, without having to place implants under the muscles.

By incorporating fat transfer, a hybrid breast augmentation also allows the use of smaller implants, so the risks of issues like capsular contracture or potential sagging over time, are greatly reduced.

This will minimize the risk of problems that may arise such as capsular contractures and greatly reduces the potential sagging of your breasts overtime.

It also reduces the recovery time to less than a week in many cases.

Best Seasons to Visit South Korea

korea medical tourism

Planning on where to go during your holidays is nice and all, but one thing you can’t overlook is WHEN you visit certain countries as it will also affect your experience greatly.

Do you like crowd? Do you like more relaxed atmosphere? Do you like warm weather or do you like the cold? What about seasonal events in your designated country? You can’t forget to consider all these while planning your vacation in order to avoid turning your dream holiday into a nightmare.

korea medical tourism

In Asia, one of the more popular destinations is South Korea, home to increasingly popular K-pop and K-drama genres.

For South Korea, it has 4 seasons that vary greatly from each other, delightful spring (April to June), a muggy and wet summer (July to August), a refreshing autumn (September to November) and a freezing cold, snowy but dry winter (December to March).

1. Spring

korea medical tourism

Spring starts at the end of March to beginning of May.

Spring is widely considered to be the best season to visit South Korea. Purple cherry blossoms or azaleas start to grow and bloom very beautifully bathing the city with delightful hues of pink.

Average daily temperatures are pleasant 15-18°C. In early spring, the weather is still cold and the sun that shines brightly only seem to illuminate but not warm the Earth.

The weather is less likely to be inclement and, as a result, many festivals and events can be found taking place such as Yeoido Cherry Blossom Festival and Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival.

2. Summer

korea medical tourism

Summer begins on June and ends on August where it reaches its peak. Visiting Korea in summer is best for you who want to participate in festivals as Korea has a lot of those in summer, especially water based festivals such as the Sincheon Wakeup City Fiesta Festival.
However, it is less recommended for you who only want to go sightseeing or travel with children as it normally rains all day long in July and most tourist spots are normally full because many Koreans take a break from work at summer.

3. Autumn
korea medical tourism
Autumn in Korea starts in September and ends in November. Autumn in Korea is really pretty, with leaves falling from trees creating a really beautiful leaf rain. The leaves of maple and gingko trees have changed to yellow, red, or brown, making a rather romantic atmosphere.

The weather has begun to cool, although you can still feel the heat in September.

Unfortunately, this view only lasts three weeks. If you want to see the leaves turn colorful, you should visit at the end of October or early November.
4. Winter

korea medical tourism

Winter in compared to its neighbor, Japan. Winter usually starts in December to February, with the coldest temperature of -20 degrees celcius. Furthermore, even in warmer areas where its -5 to -10 degrees can feel like it is -20 degrees cold due to the strong winds.
You are not advised to visit Korea at winter, especially with a baby, because the cold is extreme. You can instead come on December to January to enjoy heavy snow falls when the weather is more friendly.
