Plastic in this term comes from the Greek word “plastikos”, which means “to mold,” a reference to how both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery involve reshaping the body.
Plastic Surgery is of two types, one is reconstructive surgery and other is cosmetic surgery.
Reconstructive plastic surgery aims to repair or reshape the structure of the face or human body damaged by accidental injuries or birth defects while cosmetic/aesthetic plastic surgery aims to enhance patient’s appearance through surgical procedures on the face and body.
Although both surgeries are done for different purposes, cosmetic surgery is still often referred simply as plastic surgery.
